Description

This spicy version of coleslaw is wonderful as a side dish to chicken, pork or fish and just about all grilled meats. We especially like it on fish tacos.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • ½ cups Mayonnaise
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Lime Zest
  • 1 clove Minced Garlic
  • 1 whole Jalapeno, Finely Chopped
  • ¾ cups Cilantro, Divided
  • 8 cups Sliced Cabbage
  • 4 whole Green Onions, Sliced

Preparation

Add sour cream, mayonnaise, sugar, lime juice, lime zest, garlic, jalapeno and 1/4 cup finely chopped cilantro together and mix well. In a separate bowl, toss together the cabbage, remaining 1/2 cup cilantro coarsely chopped, and green onions. Pour dressing over cabbage mixture and stir until well coated. Cover and chill for at least an hour for best flavor. Can be made a day ahead. You can also use a bag of coleslaw mix in place of the sliced cabbage.

Made it minus the jalepeno (for the kids) and with diced fresh mango. Yum. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

we made this the other night for dinner, and it was great! even my husband, who is not a cilantro fan, liked it. we made it even better by adding fresh pinapple. the addition of the sweet to the sour was refreshing!

Delicious! Even better the next day. We added the jalapeno, but left out the seeds. Not spicy at all!

Huge hit! I did make a couple of adjustments to the recipe: I used 1 bag of prepped coleslaw and since we were serving children I held off on the jalapenos, but wanted a little heat for adults, so added some cayenne pepper to taste (about 1/4 tsp). Not too hot, but just enough! We served with pulled pork sandwiches and it was very refreshing!

This was really good slaw! We put it on grilled shrimp quesadillas! The cilantro really takes it up a notch! I will definitely make this again and next time will try it on fish tacos.
