I made this (and took photos of the process for the Tasty Kitchen Blog) and I can’t rave enough about it. It was simple, straightforward…and absolutely delicious. I served it over plain rice and kept spooning more sauce over the rice as I ate and ate and ate.
There was a little discussion as to whether or not this is “authentic” Butter Chicken, and I’d have to say it was too delicious for me to care!

After seeing this on the blog, I emailed it to my mom and said OMG! We have to try this! She made it first and raved about it. I made it the next week for myself and my 15yr old son. Wow… SO good. The sauce is lovely, though I felt needed a bit more of a kick (the next time I made it I added some more cayenne). I swear, I could take a bath in the sauce, it is SO good. The first time I made it, I followed the directions to a ‘T’. Easy, doesn’t use any ‘odd’ ingredients that you have to hunt for, and very versatile.
The second time I made it, I added more cayenne, switched out the cream for ½ plain yogurt, and ½ skim milk, and doubled the lime juice. Just as good!!!!
The third time I made it, my son asked for it for dinner that night since he was having friends over. So I diced up the chicken into bite sized pieces, marinated it like usual for about an hour, then proceeded w/the recipe. Just as good! It also received 2 thumbs up from all of his friends. One even mentioned that it was the best thing he ever ate!
The beautiful thing about this, is that the sauce freezes beautifully. So now I make it about once a month, double the batch, dice the chicken into pieces before marinating, then freezing it all into 2 servings per bag when complete. Makes dinner quick and easy!

After seeing Ree’s post on this, I decided to make it. Unfortunately, the first time I didnt read the marinate overnight part. I only marinated for 30 min, but the flavor was still incredible.
I made it again a few months later for my sister, this time marinating it overnight & it was even better! I dont care if its not authentic. If it tastes good & my husband eats it(super picky) than its a great recipe! Super easy as well. I love Basmati rice as well. Will be adding this to the dinner rotation!

I love this recipe. I’ve made it twice and it’s so simple to make and has a great flavor. One thing I really like about it, is that the ingredients are simple and I have these on hand most of the time, so it’s a great recipe to use when you have chicken to cook.
I used 1/2 pint whipping cream and 1/2 pint non-fat half and half and it worked out great.

This was delicious! I ended up marinating the chicken for two days due to busy baseball nights. I think it made it even more moist and flavorful. Will be on the menu many more times!

This is now one of my most favorite recipes ever. It is just so delicious and simple, and like others have said, I usually have the ingredients on hand! I have to also agree that I don’t care if it is authentic or not because it is so good. One question for all you more experienced cooks–do you think you could substitute coconut milk for the cream in this recipe? I’ve been trying more of the Thai recipes on this site, and I was just curious if y’all thought that would be a terrible idea or not.
Sorry to digress–this recipe is fabulous and everyone I’ve made it for agrees.

I have made this once but have been craving it for weeks now. (I’ve been too busy to cook it for myself.) I think I ate all the leftovers myself and threatened my husband if he even came near it or thought about it. It is one of my all time favorite recipes and it will be a staple in our house forever. Combines my love of cream and tomatoes and my husbands love of rice.

This recipe is delicious! I have made it several times and I love it. For those concerned about the thickness of the sauce (see previous comments), you can easily thicken it just before serving with a bit of cornstarch mixed with cold water, which makes for a heartier sauce texture. To make it a little healthier, I have also substituted a can of lowfat evaporated milk for the cream with good results. Either way, I will happily eat the sauce with a spoon (or mop it up with a piece of naan from Trader Joe’s). Yum!

This recipe is fabulous. My husband absolutely adores it and I have made it many times. He is currently deployed and has emailed me saying he misses butter chicken!
I have never managed to marinate more than a few hours (because I’m just NOT that organized!) so I imagine it could be even better! Very easy, delicious recipe.

I made this tonight, and the sauce and flavors were delicious- I would definitely make it again. However– does anyone know how to cook the chicken so it is not chewy, but instead soft and tender? I followed the recipe to a tee, but the chicken was just so-so…I didn’t like that it was kind of tough, even though I didn’t overcook it. But besides that, like i said, great flavors and perfect over basmati rice.

Oh, I also wanted to ask you, lillieknits, what do you do with the leftover sauce? I am thinking of either using it in a soup, or perhaps doing a baked spaghetti casserole with it… just curious what you do with the leftover sauce… thanks again for the recipe!

We really, really enjoyed this recipe. Thank you so much for sharing. I served this with a Ceasar salad on the side. (didn’t know what else to accompany it with!)

Incredible! My daughter is just getting into cooking and she made this a couple of nights ago. It was easy and delicious. We will definitely be making this again and again. Thanks for sharing!

This was great! However we ended up with a TON of leftover sauce. I’d recommend making this with at least 6 chicken breasts unless you have really giant chicken breasts.

Made this last night. Didn’t have the cardamom, so left that out. Used fat-free 1/2 and 1/2 instead of whipping cream and only used 1/2 pint. Didn’t realize the chicken was supposed to marinate so long, so only let it go an hour. Longer probably would have been better, but the flavor was great. Make a bunch of extra basmati, as you will probably have extra sauce and it is great w/ just rice!

Absolutely delicious!! I just made this tonight and everybody loved it. I’ll definitely be making this again.

A delicious different recipe! It wasn’t too spicy at all – just flavorful. Loved the sauce, but I don’t think I’ll add as much cream next time. It was too thin for me and I was tempted to thicken it up a bit. This was delicious reheated also! A great winter alternative to grilling chicken breasts. Thanks so much for sharing.

Made this last night for dinner! It was absolutely awesome! The whole house smelled great, the chicken and sauce were so delicious! I cut the chicken up in bite size pieces before marinating and I think I had too much sauce, but wow was it great! Will be making this again!
