Grilled salad?! Yes, it may sound odd to some of you, but the ladies here give it rave reviews. This is not a unique idea, lest you think I’ve completely made this up. A quick search of the internet will reveal many versions.
Split each head of lettuce lengthwise.
Drizzle the cut side of each half evenly with a tablespoon or two of oil.
Season the cut side of each half with salt and pepper.
Grill each half, cut-side-down, over a hot direct fire for about 90 seconds.
Remove to a sheet pan, sprinkle evenly with the cheese and let cool.
Drizzle each half with an equal amount of dressing.
Cut each half in half width-wise, serve and enjoy!

I just found a recipe similar to this that used strawberries, too. I chopped them up and cooked them down in the balsamic and a little bit of sugar, then topped the salad with sliced strawberries, and I used goat cheese. Fabulous!

This was really delicious! The romaine got really mellow and the combo of balsamic and feta was amazing. Thanks for a great recipe!

Everyone should try this! We’ve been grilling our romaine for about a year now…since I saw it on a Food Network show about a restaurant in British Columbia that does this for their Ceasar salad.
I usually buy the Bacon Ceaser dressing for it but have also used Blue Cheese dressing. {{I know…so not low calorie}}. I am definitely going to try your version with Feta and Balsamic.

Delicious! I paired the grilled romaine with a homemade Caesar dressing and it was fantastic. Rave reviews from the whole family. Thanks for sharing it!

Other than the fact that that photo is gorgeous, it looks great! I love romaine lettuce, and I’ve never thought of grilling it. Once it gets warmer outside and my dad’s using the grill, I’ll definitely try this out. Thanks for this, looks delicious.
