This basic slaw is a Thanksgiving staple at our house, with it’s perfectly balanced sweet and sour taste and just the right amount of creaminess!
Wash, core and shred cabbage and place in large bowl.
Wash, peel, shred and rinse carrots. Drain well (to remove excess color so slaw doesn’t turn orange) and then place in bowl with cabbage.
In a small bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper with a wire whisk. Taste and adjust salt, pepper, vinegar and sugar as needed to balance the flavors.
Add onions (if using) and dressing to the bowl with the cabbage and carrots and mix to combine.
Cover and refrigerate for several hours. Just before serving, taste and add salt and pepper as needed.
