Description

While fresh basil leaves are a great thing to have around, when it comes to pizza, grab a jar of prepared pesto off the grocery store shelf! It makes a good pizza great. And it makes a great pizza, like, almost too delicious for words.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Recipe Of Your Favorite Pizza Dough (homemade Or Store-bought Is Just Fine, Too)
  • 1 jar Prepared Pesto
  • Kosher Salt To Taste
  • Fresh Mozzarella
  • Roma Tomatoes
  • Olive Oil
  • Fresh Basil Leaves
  • Fresh Parmesan Cheese

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 500 degrees.

Press the pizza dough into a sheet pan (you can also use a pizza stone or grill).

You can conduct your own taste test as I did, by making a half and half pizza, or choose your favorite way and make the entire pizza out of that.

Tomato-Basil Pizza Made with Pesto:
Smear the pesto over half of the pizza dough and sprinkle some kosher salt over it.

Slice the mozzarella thin enough to cover the pizza thoroughly. Next, lay thin slices of Roma tomatoes over the mozzarella.

Tomato-Basil Pizza made with fresh basil:
Drizzle olive oil over the dough and sprinkle kosher salt over it. Wash and dry the basil leaves and lay them in a single layer on top of the olive oil.

Top the basil with a layer of mozzarella and add a layer of Roma tomatoes. Go ahead and top with more mozzarella if there’s any left.

For Both Variations:
Grate some fresh Parmesan cheese over the entire pizza.

Bake the pizza according to the crust directions.

And eat!

This was a lot of fun to make! I am a college student, but tonight I got to invite my parents (who luckily live in town) over and serve them some good home cooking! The funny thing is I got some fresh basil from Cowboy Church (some sweet lady garden mind you) and I had to make something with it! I think next time I will experiment and put a lil extra somethin’ in the crust but man did I get some happy reviews tonight. Thanks PW!

I am fairly new to tastykitchen and have since tried a couple recipes, some were just ok and some were good, but this one!! YIPEE! I love that it was so simple but tastes outstanding. I used your basic pizza dough and added about a tsp of honey. I love that I can make this dough in my breadmaker and there is no fuss. I made my pizza with Napa Valley Pesto that I bought already prepared, a little parm, a little mozzerella, sliced tomatoes, and a dash of salt. So scrumptious! This will be a go to recipe for all of those nights when I am not really feeling like a making a big fuss for dinner! And bonus, it is still delicious the next day – but don’t eat it cold.. warm is the best.

My husband and I love this pizza. We make it about twice a week and love to have friends over to make pizzas – this one is always a winner! We don’t modify Ree’s recipe other than stretching it to make 3 crusts since we like it super thin. We have also started pre bakingnthe crust to make it more crunchy – we just put it in the oven without toppings for about 5 mins and then top it and finish baking. So so yummy!

We made this for dinner this past week and it is delicious, however our store bought pesto was a tad on the salty side for our liking, so I think I might try to find a different pesto (or make my own) the next time. We used a homemade crust that we pre-baked it because we like it good & crunchy.

Definitely a good, no-brainer dinner night!
