This Patty Melt is where hamburger meets grilled cheese sandwiches. Filled with gooey cheese and caramelized onions.
In a large bowl, use hands to combine ground beef and seasonings (salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and Worcestershire sauce). Once combined, divide meat into 4 balls.
Heat frying pan or griddle to 350ºF. Using two plates, identical in size, place one of the beef balls on top of one plate and use the other plate to smash beef down into a patty about 1/4 inch thick. Place patty on top of griddle or pan. Cook on both sides for 2–3 minutes. Once patties have been cooked, clean griddle or pan for second use.
Spread one side of slices of bread with butter. Place 2 pieces of bread, butter side down, on pan or griddle. Place 2 slices of cheese on both pieces of bread. Add some caramelized onions, and finally the beef patty. Take the other slice of bread and place on top of beef patty. Flip sandwich to toast on the other side for about 2 minutes. To help the melting process, cover pan with a skillet of same size or cover sandwich on griddle with a large enough sauce pan.
Remove and continue making the rest of the sandwiches. Cut in half and serve.

Sounds yummy! Do you think it would also work if I crumbled the meat and cooked it that way instead of as a patty? This recipe sounds delicious and I cant wait to try it. Thank you for sharing. Donna Yielding
