Maple and bacon are slow baked into these baked beans. Your kitchen will smell heavenly!
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
In a large Dutch oven, combine bacon, onion, and beans.
In a small bowl, mix together salt, brown sugar, dijon mustard, maple syrup, and tomato sauce. Pour this over the bean mixture. Add just enough water to cover the beans.
Bake, with the lid on, in the preheated oven for 3 1/2-4 hours, uncovering it for the last 1/2 hour to brown the top. Check every 1/2 hour, and if the beans look dry, you may need to add more water. I added about 1/2 cup more.
