Happy Friday, everyone! Today, we’re going to close Cookie Week with a bang. A 29-cookie bang, to be exact. That may seem like a big number to you but trust me, it’s paltry considering we have 130 pages of recipes in the Cookies section of our Desserts category.
That’s a lot of cookies, friends. Allow me a minute to get on my feet and give you a hearty standing ovation.
Okay, I’m done. All that clapping and hooting made me work up an appetite. Are you ready to dive into a bath of cookie goodness with me? Grab a glass of milk and jump in!
Let’s start with a mess of cookies with chocolate in them. For some folks, a cookie just isn’t a cookie without some kind of chocolate in it. If you feel the same way, then here are a few that’ll make you do the happy dance.
Clockwise from top left: Chocolate Peppermint Crunch Cookies from twopeasandtheirpod, Zand Gebak from emmyd (photo by ericalea), Chocolate and Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies from mynameissnickerdoodle, Cowgirl Cookies from Bakerella, Chewy Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies from sundayrain, Oatmeal Cranberry Chocolate Spice Cookies from manda2177, Easy and Fast Chocolate Chip Cookies from breehester, and Muddy Buddy (or Puppy Chow) Cookies from Tracy (sugarcrafter).
As much as we all love chocolate, it’s hard to deny that there is an entire world of wonderful non-chocolate cookies that are no less enticing than their cocoa-laden brethren. Shortbread, spice cookies, sugar cookies, and even cheesecake cookies.
It’s almost enough to make one forget about chocolate for a while.
Top row, from left to right: My Version of the Lofthouse Frosted Cookie and Sugared Cranberry Pecan Shortbread from Noshings, and Harvest Apple Cookies with Brown Butter Glaze from sprinkledwithflour. Middle row, from left to right: Grandma Effie’s Molasses Kringles from mommiecooks, Butter Cookies from Karly Campbell, and Amy’s Raspberry Almond Thumbprint Cookies from CarenG. Bottom row, from left to right: Cherry Cheesecake Cookies from taracooks, Gingerbread Cookie Sandwiches from multiplydelicious, and Chewy Molasses Spice Cookies from Angela [YourEverydayMama].
Then there are the lesser-known cookies that sometimes don’t even look like cookies. They usually have exotic names like biscotti, palmier, or macaron. Like a mysterious, intriguing cousin from a land far away who talks with a delightful accent and dresses and accessorizes just a bit differently.
Then you bite into them and discover they’re every bit as yummy as everyone else.
(Not that I’d bite any cousin of mine.)
Clockwise from top left: Espresso Cinnamon Cream Cheese & White Chocolate Palmiers from cookincanuck, Malted Milk Macarons from daydreamerdesserts, Macaroons from britty, Orange Nut Biscotti from ivoryhut, Chocolate Chip Macaroons with Salted Candied Pecans from FrontierKitchen, Coconut Macarons with White Chocolate-Mango Ganache from The Culinary Chronicles, and Chocolate & Almond Biscotti from ericalea.
You didn’t think we’d forget our gluten-free friends, did you?
Clockwise from top left: Gluten Free Peanut Butter & Nutella Thumbprint Cookies from bell-alimento, Gluten Free “Molasses” Spice Cookies from elanaspantry, Gluten-free Chocolate Walnut Cookies from Apicosa (Erica), Chocolate Chip Cookies, Gluten-Free from glutenfreegirl, and Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies from ericalea.
And there you have it! 29 different ways to bring this wonderful Cookie Week to a close.
So what kind of cookie turns you into a cookie monster? Are you squarely in the “chocolate all the way!” camp? Do you like ‘em crunchy or chewy? Or are you like me—an equal opportunity cookie monster who will even snack on cookie dough when she thinks no one is looking? (Oh, please let there be someone out there who’s just as bad as I am.)
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll march into my kitchen and start baking my way through this post.

Bummer… Love all the cookies and intended to have a bake fest But have been recently diagnosed with diabetes… This adjustment and getting sugars under control is probably not the best time to be baking all this lusciousness and sweetness!

Oh THANK YOU for including gluten-free options! This is my first Christmas with Celiac Disease and I am finding this time of year hard, although I’ve adjusted to the change without gluten easily. I love cookie exchanges and can’t participate this year, but I will be baking lots at home. But, thank you so much for thinking of those of us who can’t have wheat and gluten! Happy Cookie Baking!

Now who’s gonna come clean this drool off my keyboard? Hello?
Buffi on 12.4.2010
These look amazing. I, however, am looking for a recipe for potato chip cookies sans chocolate chips. A previous friend who’s now deceased used to make them when I visited them in Minnesota about 20 years ago. I’ve tried many recipes, but they all fail to meet “Grandma Ruby’s” standard.

I’m sure I read somewhere that cookie dough has less calories than the baked cookies -f’real <3 . Any of you science types out there care to deny or confirm (and explain) that?

well……… I guess I can’t admit that I have been known to eat a stale “Chips Ahoy!” cookie from time to time.
I would bake all these cookies from your lovely photos, if only I had the time (oh, and a really good pair of black stretchy pants).

Always an inspiration!

If I had to choose, I’m probably going chocolate every time. But I too am open to anything and if it’s cookie dough, I’m testing it! Love spice and citrus in particular.

WOW! Thanks for all the wonderful cookie recipes. I was just thinking that I should have a Christmas party for the girls and incorporate a cookie exchange. Now off to make my guest list!
Mary G on 12.3.2010
These all look fabulous, but I feel compelled to note that very few have ratings. I don’t mean to be a party-pooper, but just because a picture LOOKS pretty, doesn’t mean the cookie is going to TASTE good. Due to ingrediant cost and time involved, it would be helpful to feature only recipes have been reviewed by a minumum of 10 bakers who have actually made the cookies and not just commented on how good they look. I need recipes that have have been tried, tested, and true. Isn’t that what reviews, comments, and “mitt” ratings were developed for in the first place?

Wonderful! I plan to start baking tonight during our snow storm! I have a desire to give the macaroons a try this year, whish me luck!

Erika,
Please know that you are not the only one–just 20 minutes ago I ate 3 frozen chocolate chip cookie dough balls. I have this false belief that if I only bake 1 or 2 dozen then freeze the rest, I won’t eat as many cookies. I think I prefer the frozen dough balls the actual baked cookies–I probably need an intervention–is anyone here willing to help???
Thanks for the great selection of cookies!
Nikki

I had to cut back on baking the last couple of years (finances), so now I only make about 10 different recipes. I always make caramels, World Peace cookies, rum balls, sables, and some form of molasses cookie, then I add new recipes. Last year I made Rugelach and they were a huge hit – I’ve already promised to make them again this year. I made two versions – one with chocolate and one with raisins. I especially love to make slice and bake cookies (I’ve been saving paper towel roll centers for a couple of months – they’re perfect for helping keep the shape in the fridge), and the Sugared Cranberry Pecan Shortbread just went on my list. Thanks, too, for the gluten free recipes. My cousin’s little girl is often left out of the cookie options because of her gluten allergy.

Wow! Some of these look amazing! Thanks for a great list of things to do, cookies to bake…! I’m especially intrigued by the Cowgirl Cookies.
But since you asked: I must say, the best cookie I have ever had is the Snowflake Cookie I posted a couple of days ago (it’s not my own recipe, so I’m allowed to say this )! I do like a crunchy cookie, and a chewy cookie – but if it literally melts in my mouth – that’s when I fall in love!
jessica on 12.3.2010
I’m a good old fashioned kinda gal, peanut butter, oatmeal cin., choc. chip and sugar cookies are just about the only types that I make!! This list def. gets my wheels turning though!!
Estela @ Weekly Bite on 12.3.2010
My cookie list just grew by about 30! Thanks for the inspiration!

Wow, I’ve always wanted to try the palmiers, this might be the year. I too make about 50 recipes, each year I add a few and take a few off. I pre-make all my dough during the week. I freeze it with instructions on how to bake them. I then bake all weekend. I batch the cookies into the same oven temperature. I make the ones in the hottest oven first, then turn it down and bake the ones at a lower temperature. It is an assembly line. I line the table with parchment and containers. Once they are all cooled they are sealed up. I dip all of my apricots, oreos, potato chips, pretzels, etc on another day.
The last day I make trays, wrap them in cellophane and my hubby delivers them to the neighbors, the barber, the hair dresser, etc.
It is something I enjoy doing every year.
