Description

Asian-Inspired Spicy Turkey Meatballs. Easy, light and full of flavor!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Free-range Organic Ground Turkey
  • 1-½ cup Bread Crumbs
  • 1 whole Yellow Onion, Diced
  • 1 whole Carrot, Diced Finely
  • 3 cloves Fresh Garlic, Minced
  • 1 teaspoon Grated Fresh Ginger
  • 2 Tablespoons Fresh Chopped Parsley
  • 2 Tablespoons Fresh Chopped Mint Leaves
  • 2 Tablespoons Fresh Chopped Cilantro Leaves
  • 1 whole Medium Lime, Juiced
  • 1 Tablespoon Tablespoon Molasses Or Wheat-free Tamari Sauce
  • Sea Salt And Ground Pepper, To Taste

Preparation

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with a reusable Exopat or Silpat. If you don’t have those, use a double layer of parchment.
2. In a large bowl, break apart ground turkey with your hands and add bread crubs. Mix evenly. Add in the diced onion, carrot, minced garlic, grated ginger, and fresh herbs. Mix just until blended. Add in the fresh lime juice and molasses. Mix lightly. Season with salt and pepper. If you use tamari, go light on salt.
3. Form golf-sized meatballs using the palms of your hands to roll and round spoonfuls of the mixture. Place the turkey meatballs on the lined baking sheet as you roll them.
4. Bake the meatballs in the center of a preheated oven for about 20 to 30 minutes until cooked through (you’ll probably have to break one apart). Place the baking sheet on a cooling rack and brush them with a little olive oil.
5. Serve immediately with Asian style noodles.

I think the dryness probably comes from the leanness of the turkey vs. a fattier beef. I kept remarking how great they’d taste with sweet and sour or a ginger-maple dipping sauce, so I might try that for next time myself.

I can’t fairly review these because I made them without all the ingredients. I didn’t have garlic (how do I not have garlic in my house?!?), or any of the fresh herbs. I used garlic powder and dried parsley and mint. These came out well but a little dry – I probably over cooked them because I was distracted. I think if they were made as the recipe was written, they’d be really good! I still think they’d be better with some sort of sauce to dip them in.

I thought that they were easy to make but that they came out a little dry. I wish that the recipe for the noodles would have been included or some sort of dipping sauce.
