Description

A delicious, hearty comfort food made extra easy by the addition of frozen egg noodles. This’ll make your soul smile.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Cut Up Fryer Chicken
  • 2 whole Carrots, Diced
  • 2 stalks Celery, Diced
  • ½ whole Medium Onion, Diced (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Turmeric
  • ¼ teaspoons White Pepper (more To Taste)
  • ¼ teaspoons Ground Thyme
  • 2 teaspoons Parsley Flakes
  • 16 ounces, weight Frozen "homemade" Egg Noodles
  • 3 Tablespoons All-purpose Flour

Preparation

Cover chicken in 4 quarts water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 30 minutes.

Remove chicken from pot with a slotted spoon. With two forks, remove as much meat from the bones as you can, slightly shredding meat in the process. Return bones to broth and simmer on low, covered, for 45 minutes.

Remove bones from broth with a slotted spoon, making sure to get any small bones that might have detached.

Add the carrots and celery (and onions, if using) to the pot, followed by the herbs and spices. Stir to combine and simmer for ten minutes to meld flavors.

Increase heat and add frozen egg noodles and chicken. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes.

Mix flour and a little water. Stir until smooth. Pour into soup, stir to combine, and simmer for another 5 minutes, or until broth thickens a bit. Test and adjust seasonings as needed.

This recipe is delicious!!! I used a roasted chicken from Costco and boxed chicken broth. Followed the rest of the recipe to the letter. Wow, what a great comfort food this dish is!!! Will definitely be making this again, it’s one of those recipes that you’ll always make, no matter the time of year!! Thanks again Ree!!!

I made this yesterday and we finished up the leftovers tonight. Absolutely the best. The turmeric is the key ingredient. Will definitely make this again.

I made this but was concerned that my picky eater spouse might not like all the noodles it calls for. I used a half bag of noodles & broke them in half. Also, did not have turmeric so I used curry and used low salt chicken broth to boil the chicken instead of the water. I also softened the veggies in 1 Tbsp. butter so they weren’t so crunchy in the soup. Next time to decrease the fat content, I would be more careful with skimming fat from the stock.

Delicious!! Have tried it with and without onion. Will always use the onion! It is super easy and definitely a cold weather favorite!

This recipe is delicious! Have made twice now and it is a keeper – I cut a few corners and use a carton of chicken broth and chicken tenderloins instead of cooking a whole chicken and removing the bones. I also skip the turmeric because that is not an ingredient I keep on the shelf. This soup comes out creamy, delicious, and seasoned to perfection!

This recipe is divine WITH some tweaking, in my opinion. To make the dish the thickness I desired, I used 3 QTS water instead of 4, and I ended up adding add’l salt and turmeric and threw in a few chicken bouillon cubes too for some more flavor. (I didn’t have any chicken base on hand.) Just taste the broth as you go, and you can adjust to personal taste. The end result was so delicious! Will definitely be making this again.

This is our family’s new favorite Chicken Noodle Soup recipe! Thanks Ree! Love the flavors! I used a rotisserie chicken – so skipped creating my own broth and used organic Chicken Stock instead. Used a little olive oil in pot with mirepoix, added broth, seasonings and then added shredded chicken. Loved the Reames Egg noodles – such a comfort! Tumeric had me skeptical – but now I am believer! Love this soup!
