Description

I learned this recipe from my aunt over twenty years ago. It is still a family favorite. This sandwich is great for office parties. People will ask for this recipe, and you will take home an empty plate.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French Bread
  • 1 pound Deli Honey Ham (thinly Shaved)
  • 8 slices Baby Swiss Cheese
  • 3 Tablespoons Yellow Mustard
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • ¼ cups Poppy Seeds
  • 1 stick Butter, Softened

Preparation

For sandwich spread: Place softened butter in a small bowl. Add the mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and poppy seeds. Mix thoroughly. You want the spread soft, but not runny.

To assemble: Using a serrated knife, slice the french bread horizontally. (I usually hollow out the top of the loaf by removing a small amount of the bread from the top and discarding it.) Distribute the sandwich spread evenly on the top and bottom halves of the french loaf. On the bottom half, stack the ham. (It will look like a lot, but it will press down in the oven) Next, at an angle and overlapping, add the slices of cheese. Finish by placing the top half on the sandwich.

Wrap with foil and place foil-wrapped sandwich directly on an oven rack. Bake at 400 degrees for twenty to twenty-five minutes until cheese melts and the sandwich is heated through. Slice and serve hot. Enjoy!

We make a very similar version of this for office lunches using small dinner rolls. Everybody gets 2 mini sandwiches with chips and pickles, and it is always a hit!
