Description

Simple easy recipe for Sweet and Sour Pork Stir Fry is the perfect idea for Chinese at home. Crispy pork with a delicious sauce is the best takeout fakeout.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE MARINADE:
  • 1  Egg, Slightly Beaten
  • 2 Tablespoons Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
  • ½ Tablespoons Light Soy Sauce
  • Salt And Pepper, to taste
  • FOR THE PORK:
  • 1-¼ pound Pork Chops Or Pork Tenderloin
  • 1 Tablespoon Water
  • ½ teaspoons Baking Soda
  • FOR THE SAUCE:
  • 5 Tablespoons Ketchup
  • ¼ cups Water
  • 1-½ Tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey
  • 1 Tablespoon Rice Vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Oyster Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha
  • Salt And Pepper, to taste
  • ½ teaspoons Cornstarch Dissolved In 1 Tablespoon Water

Preparation

In a bowl. stir together marinade ingredients.

Cut pork into thin strips. If necessary, flatten with a meat mallet.

In a bowl, combine water and baking soda. Add pork and let sit for 20 minutes.

After 20 minutes, drain any excess liquid off the pork and stir in prepared marinade. Refrigerate pork for at least 4 hours or overnight.

After marinating, deep fry pork slices in oil over medium to medium high heat, until golden brown and cooked. Drain on paper towels and set aside.

Meanwhile, for the sauce, in a saucepan combine ketchup, water, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, oyster sauce, Sriracha, salt and pepper.

Bring sauce to a simmer. In a small bowl, combine cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water. Pour cornstarch mixture into simmering sauce. Taste and adjust seasoning to your liking.

Once sauce is slightly thickened, add cooked pork and toss to coat. Serve pork over steamed white rice.

Sheryl, it actually works well. It makes a bit of a paste, but then when poured and stirred in the moisture on the pork adds a bit to the liquid. Normally, with just the 1 Tbsp of water you will not need to drain. This process helps to tenderize the pork.

How do you get the water & baking soda to contact all of the pork? Just asking because I want to make this but I can’t visualize 1 tbsp water being enough. Thanks!
