Description

Perfect for a weeknight meal, this meat sauce uses two types of Italian sausage and layers the ingredients for maximum flavor!

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Red Onion, Diced
  • ⅓ cups Olive Oil, Divided, To Use As Needed
  • 2 Tablespoons Onion Powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Garlic Powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Dried Oregano
  • 2 Tablespoons Dried Thyme
  • 2 Tablespoons Dried Basil
  • 2 Tablespoons Smoked Paprika
  • 1 pound Ground Italian Sausage
  • 12 ounces, fluid Tomato Paste
  • ½ cups Dry Red Wine
  • 1 pound Italian Sausage Links, Sliced
  • 32 ounces, fluid Tomato Sauce
  • 2 pounds Noodles Of Choice, Prepared According To Package Instructions
  • Parmesan Cheese, To Serve

Preparation

In a large pot over medium high heat, saute diced red onion in 2 tablespoons olive oil until translucent, about 3 minutes. Stir minimally.

Add spices and stir to coat. Add olive oil as needed until a loose paste forms. Saute until fragrant.

Add ground Italian sausage and mix into onion mixture and saute for 3 minutes. Add tomato paste and stir to combine. Saute for 3 minutes.

Deglaze pan with red wine (add the red wine to the pot and use the liquid to get up the browned bits on the bottom of the pan). Add sliced Italian sausage, stir to combine, saute for 3 minutes.

Add tomato sauce and stir to combine. Lower heat to medium low, and cover. You want the sauce to be bubbling slightly.

Simmer for 30 minutes. Serve over your favorite pasta and top with Parmesan cheese.
