Description

Most of my favorite recipes are old family recipes, but this is a more recent one that I got from my brother-in-law’s family (they live on the coast and eat a LOT of shrimp). If you like shrimp and a little spice, you will LOVE this! Also, this recipe is a “per person” recipe so you make it according to the number of people you plan to have!

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon Water
  • 4 Tablespoons Salt
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 4 Tablespoons Zatarain's Cajun Seasoning
  • 2 whole Lemons
  • 3 whole Small Potatoes
  • ½ pounds Kielbasa (Smoked Sausage), Sliced Into 1/4" Pieces
  • 1 ear Corn
  • 1 whole Crab (optional)
  • ½ pounds Medium-Sized Raw Shrimp In Shell

Preparation

1. Boil about a gallon of water in a large kettle on the stove or outdoor cooker.

2. Season water with salt, garlic and Zatarain’s along with the juice of lemons.

3. Add potatoes and cook for 10 minutes.

4. Add sausage and corn. Bring back to a boil.

5. When potatoes are almost tender, add the crab.

6. Bring to a boil, then add shrimp.

7. Cook only for a few minutes until shrimp are just done. They will be pink in color.

8. Drain and pour into a basket or onto platters.

9. Have cocktail sauce and Dijon mustard at hand.

We do this countless times every summer, I love it! Just cover the table with newspaper and dump all the food in the middle and everyone picks from it. Don’t forget the Old Bay!

Thank you for this recipe. It has been years since I have had a shrimp boil. Seeing this inspired me and we had a fun family dinner. The cleanup was the best part!
