In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Saute onion, sprinkle with some salt. Continue sauteing until clear, then add the brown sugar. Cook another 10 minutes until the onions are caramelized. Add the apple, cook for 3 minutes, then add the sauerkraut. Season with salt and pepper.
Mix all together then add to slow cooker.
In the same pan, brown kielbasa links until they have nice little scorch marks on them. Place the links on top of the Kielbasa in the slow cooker.
Pour maple syrup over the top. Cook on low 6 to 8 hours or on high for 4 hours.
