Description

Indian Spiced Sloppy Joes.

Ingredients

  • 5 Tablespoons To 6 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil, Divided
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Ginger
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 1 whole Serrano Chile Pepper, Minced, Divided (Include Seeds And Ribs Of Half)
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • ½ teaspoons Smoked Paprika
  • 16 ounces, fluid Can Tomato Sauce
  • 1 cup Water
  • ¼ cups Raisins
  • ½ teaspoons Ground Cumin
  • 1 whole White Onion, Finely Diced
  • 1 whole Red Bell Pepper, Seeded And Finely Diced
  • 1 pound Ground Turkey
  • ½ teaspoons Honey
  • ¼ cups Heavy Cream
  • 1 bunch Cilantro (a Handful), Roughly Chopped
  • 6 whole Hamburger Buns

Preparation

Heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the ginger, garlic and 1/2 chile pepper (without seeds and ribs) and cook until the garlic slightly browns.

Add the garam masala and paprika and cook for about 30 seconds.

Add the tomato sauce and water, stir and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, uncovered, for about 15-20 minutes.

In a separate pan, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the raisins and cook, stirring occasionally, until the raisins puff up. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Return the skillet to medium heat and add the remaining 1 to 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Add the cumin, onion and bell pepper and cook until softened and starting to brown, about 5 minutes.

Add the remaining 1/2 chile pepper (including seeds and ribs) and cook 2 more minutes, seasoning with salt.

Add the turkey, breaking up the big lumps, and cook for about 5-8 minutes. Add the prepared sauce to the turkey and onion mixture in the skillet. Stir and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer until the mixture thickens slightly, about 25 minutes.

Stir in the honey, heavy cream and raisins. Taste for seasoning. Stir in the cilantro right before serving over hamburger buns.

Enjoy!
