Description

It is so simple and fun to make your own Chinese takeout at home. This slow cooker honey sesame chicken and broccoli is quick to put together and huge on flavor! Serve with rice for a complete meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts, Diced Into 2 Inch Pieces
  • ¼ cups Cornstarch, Divided, Plus An Additional 1/4 Teaspoon For The End
  • 2 Tablespoons Sesame Oil, Divided
  • ½ cups Water
  • 3 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • ½ cups Low Sodium Soy Sauce
  • 6 Tablespoons Honey
  • 2 Tablespoons Rice Wine Vinegar
  • 1 head Broccoli Cut Into Florets
  • 2 Tablespoons Sesame Seeds, Plus Additional For Sprinkling On Top

Preparation

First, mix the diced chicken and 2 tablespoons of the corn starch in a bowl so that the chicken gets coated. Then heat 1 tablespoon of the sesame oil in a large skillet and brown the chicken for just a couple of minutes on the outside. It does not need to be cooked through at this time. Then transfer the chicken to a slow cooker. Mix the remaining two tablespoons of corn starch with the water to create a slurry and pour it into the slow cooker with the chicken. Finally, add the garlic, soy sauce, honey, and rice wine vinegar. Stir it all together and turn the heat to low. Seal the slow cooker and let it all cook for 3 hours.

When the 3 hours are up, add the broccoli florets and the final 1/4 teaspoon of corn starch to thicken it all more. Seal the slow cooker again and let it all cook for another hour to hour and a half. Stir in the sesame seeds at the end just so they get fragrant. Serve it immediately with rice and extra sesame seeds on top for an easy meal that will be even better than your favorite takeout!
