Description

Simple General Tso’s Chicken, perfectly sweet and spicy!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CHICKEN:
  • ¼ cups Cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoons Baking Soda
  • Salt And Pepper, to taste
  • 1 pound Uncooked Chicken, Cubed
  • 3 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 1 head Broccoli, Cut Into Florets And Steamed (optional)
  • FOR THE SAUCE:
  • 3 Tablespoons Rice Wine Vinegar
  • 3 Tablespoons Honey
  • 3 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Cornstarch
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • ¼ teaspoons Red Pepper Flakes (or To Taste)
  • ½ cups Water Or Chicken Stock, Or Less As Needed

Preparation

Mix together chicken coating: corn starch, baking soda, and salt and pepper. Coat chicken by tossing it with corn starch mixture.

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add coated chicken and cook until the chicken is cooked through, about 8–10 minutes.

While the chicken is cooking, whisk together rice wine vinegar, honey, soy sauce, corn starch, garlic, red pepper flakes, and half of the water or chicken stock sauce. Add sauce mixture to the skillet once the chicken is cooked. Bring to a simmer and simmer until thickened. If the sauce is too sticky or thick, you can add the remaining water or chicken stock to slightly thin it.

If desired, add steamed broccoli. Serve over rice.

easy and good. I am always a little wary about red pepper flakes (husband doesn’t do hot), but this was perfect. Took very little time to prepare.
