This recipe is sure to score big points on your table! It’s one of the most requested dinners by everyone in my family.
**Cook time includes prep after grilling steaks
Preheat oven to 400 F.
Season your steaks with garlic salt on both sides.
Cut both loaves of bread lengthwise and place on a cookie sheet.
Place bread in the hot oven and watch it until it’s toasted. Then remove it from the oven.
I cook my steaks outside on the grill over medium high heat; roughly 6 minutes on each side. When the steaks are finished, allow the meat to rest for about 5 minutes. Then slice the meat thinly, cutting diagonally to the grain. (I use an electric knife and cut thin strips diagonal to that grain, which keeps the meat tender.)
Melt your butter (cut up the stick, put it in a glass measure cup and microwave to melt) then add dill weed and stir.
After all of the meat is sliced, place it on the toasted bread. Then pour the melted dill butter over the meat.
Now fold the loaves shut and slice into sandwiches. I use the electric knife for this step too. Just make sure you hold the bread down tight while cutting and they’re ready to serve!
You can check the related blog link for more detailed pictures on how I make these.
Note: 2 loaves will serve 5-6 people.

Um…your cooking time in the recipe says 20 Hours ?
Sounds like a great recipe

This simple recipe is SO simple I was cautious about how good it was going to be. Until I took my first bite. These sandwiches are perfect.
What I did differently; I marinated that flank steak with steak seasoning and olive oil for a few hours. I also added pepper jack cheese to one of the loaves for the dairy fans. (Just melted it in the oven)
Everyone loved them!

These were incredibly good! Every person in the fam enjoyed them…TFS this recipe, tidymom! =) I was looking for something to do with leftover steak I had after a dinner party and this was a perfect fit…definitely going into my permanent recipe file. I’m not a margarine user, but butter substituted just fine and the sauce was just enough to make the sandwich moist, but not overly greasy….yum!
