A delish cheeseburger smothered in cheese and onions. And not just any old onions—these are sautéed in red wine.
For the onions:
Slice the onions. Heat a medium size skillet on low heat and add the olive oil. Once the oil is heate add the sliced onions, salt, pepper and red wine. Sauté the onions until they start to caramelize (about 25 minutes). Remove the onions from the pan and set aside.
For the burgers:
Sprinkle the salt, pepper and garlic powder on each side of the hamburger patties. Heat the same pan that the onions were cooked in on medium heat and add the hamburger patties. Cook about 4 minutes on each side or until desired done-ness (about 2 minutes before the burgers are done cooking add 2 slices of cheese to each burger). When done, remove the burgers from the pan and set aside on a plate.
If there’s not a little grease or oil left in the pan after cooking the burgers, drizzle in a dash of olive oil and heat the pan on medium heat. Add the rolls cut down into the pan. Move the rolls around the pan so they absorb any leftover remnants from cooking the burgers. Cook until the bread starts to brown (about 3 to 4 minutes).
Remove rolls from the pan onto your plates. Add the cheeseburger on the bottom side of the roll. Then add the onions, and the top side of the roll. Enjoy!
