Description

A family favorite that I’ve been making for years. Originally, I used ziti, but when the kids were little I switched to the twisted shape of rotini because they could “fork” it better! Also I feel like it holds the sauce better. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Mild Italian Sausage
  • 12 ounces, fluid Rotini Pasta, Uncooked
  • 1 jar (26 To 32 Oz. Size) Spaghetti Sauce
  • 1 container (15 Oz. Size) Ricotta Cheese
  • ½ pounds Mozzarella Cheese, Sliced

Preparation

1. Brown sausage (either buy ground sausage or take casings off sausage links), crumbling while cooking.

2. Meanwhile boil pasta.

3. Drain any oil from the sausage and drain pasta in a colander.

4. Mix spaghetti sauce, sausage and pasta.

5. Place half of the sauce, sausage and pasta mixture in a baking dish.

6. Spread ricotta cheese over the pasta.

7. Cover with the remaining pasta mixture and smooth the top.

8. Place sliced mozzarella cheese over the mix.

9. Bake covered at 375ºF for 30 minutes, then for 5–8 minutes uncovered or until slightly browned on top.

YUM! I made this dish tonight for myself and my husband because I was craving something like lasagna but didn’t really want to deal with the flat noodles. This worked perfectly, we both loved it!!

I did substitute hamburger meat browned in onions and garlic for the sausage and instead of the Rotini noodles I used Casarecce. I also used a Vodca sauce which ended up being delictable.

This recipe is really versatile! You can use your favorite type of meat, favorite sauce and favorite noodles and it probably would always come out tasting fantastic.

Thanks for sharing :)
