This crockpot Salisbury steak recipe has flown its way up to the top of my all-time favorite meals to make. It’s rich, moist and so flavorful.
Cook 3/4 of the sliced onions in a pan with the butter on low heat. We’re going to soften them slightly while we prepare the Salisbury steaks!
In a large bowl combine ground beef with the whisked egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt/pepper and breadcrumbs. (I had some croutons that were delicious. They were homemade from a farmer’s market and I thought they would be good. So I crushed those up. A better quality breadcrumb makes a big difference. If you choose to do the same, you can place them in a zip lock bag and roll a rolling pin over them until they’re very fine.)
Form the beef into 4 even-sized oval patties. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot add the patties. Cook each side of the patties until slightly browned. This will help the patty stay together as it cooks in the crockpot.
Add the French onion soup to the onion pan and continue to cook on low.
Place 1 can of cream of mushroom soup in the crockpot, add the Salisbury steaks, and then add the additional can of mushroom soup. Pour onion soup mixture on top, and sprinkle on the remaining onion strings.
Put the lid on and turn the heat on low. After about 2 hours, stir the sauce around until well combined. Cook for a total of 3-4 hours on low.
I recommend serving with mashed potatoes or egg noodles and drizzling the extra sauce on top. Serving with corn, peas, or green beans is also great. Did you know Salisbury steak could be this good?
