Adding a Mexican flair to your hamburger.
1. Cut the onion lengthwise into rings and chop the jalapeno peppers. In a medium saute pan, heat 2 tablespoons of the butter. Once melted, add the onions and jalapeno peppers and allow to saute until translucent. When cooked, set aside.
2. In a large bowl, add the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, and taco seasoning. Using your hands, combine all the ingredients and form into 2 1/2 pound hamburgers (I made three).
3. Take your second saute pan (preferably a grill pan) and cook the hamburgers for 7 minutes on each side on medium high heat or until cooked according to preference.
4. Place a slice of cheese on top of the hamburger and cover the pan with the saute pan that you haven’t used yet, so the cheese can melt. Once the cheese has melted, place some of the sautéed onions and jalapeno on top of the burger for an extra 2 minutes and then remove from heat.
5. In the third pan, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter on low to medium heat and place the buns inside the pan. Allow to toast for about 2 minutes and remove from heat. Immediately, while the bread is still warm, place another piece of cheese on the bottom, the burger with the onions, and add some banana peppers and whatever other hamburger toppings you like. I highly recommend avocado and pico de gallo.
