Fancy jello! My grandmother would be proud. The sour cream layers make it much more interesting and delicious than plain old jello, and it looks SO beautiful on the plate.
Mix green jello with two cups boiling water. Take out ½ cup of this jello mixture and, in a separate bowl, combine it with 1 cup sour cream. This is your creamy layer. Pour it into a 9×13 glass pan and refrigerate until set, about ½ hour to 45 minutes. Pour remaining 1 ½ cups (or so) of clear green jello over the creamy layer and refrigerate until set. (The clear layer usually sets faster.) Repeat process with yellow, orange, and red jello, alternating clear and creamy layers.
You can halve the recipe (using small 3-oz. jello packages) and use a smaller casserole pan, if desired.

I made this and it turned out well. Thank you for the idea. I did make some alterations though. I combined this and another rainbow jello recipe to make up my own. I used 1 box of the knox and one box of lemon w/the sour cream. It set up really good! I’ll post my version.

I attempted to make this recipe, because I seen it at a party over the holidays. And in no way shape or form could I get it to work. No matter how long i let the sour cream layer set, the next clear layer would absorb into the cream layer. Measured everything exactly, even let the next mixture cool right off. Wasted alot of jello and sour cream. going to try a different way of making the cream layer…..I will get this.

I grew up on this Jello and it is sooo good. My mom always made it with 12 layers and only had it on Thanksgiving and Christmas because with 12 layers, it is time consuming. It was a great dinner tradition.
