This spaghetti recipe uses Sweet Italian Sausage and a little sugar to make it sweet and savory. It makes a great gift: housewarming, sick friend, new baby. Put a jar of this sauce and a box of uncooked spaghetti in a cute basket and you’ll make someone’s day!
Heat a dutch oven over medium high heat. Heat olive oil in pan until glossy. Add chopped onion to pan and cook until it is tender and slightly caramelized.
While the onion is caramelizing, remove sausage from casings. Add sausage, garlic and bell pepper to onions and allow sausage to brown and bell pepper to soften.
Once sausage and veggies are cooked, add remaining ingredients (except the pasta), stir to combine. Taste to check seasonings and allow to simmer for 45 minutes – 1 hour.
Serve over cooked spaghetti. Top with grated Parmesan Cheese and Garlic Bread.
Variation: Sliced mushrooms can be added with sauces and spices and allowed to simmer.
