Description

WARNING: Consumption of the following may cause an aversion to all other types of spaghetti.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Lean Ground Beef Or Ground Turkey
  • ½ cups Chopped Onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • ½ cups Good Red Wine
  • 1 can Tomato Sauce (15oz Can)
  • 1 can Diced Tomatoes (14.5 Oz Can)
  • 1 can Can Tomato Paste (6oz Can)
  • ½ teaspoons Dried Basil
  • ½ teaspoons Dried Thyme
  • ½ teaspoons Dried Oregano
  • 2 teaspoons Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 pinch Black Pepper
  • 1 pinch Ground Cloves
  • 1 pound Spaghetti Noodles, Cooked According To Package Instructions

Preparation

Note: This is my mom’s tried and true spaghetti recipe and the best part about it is that it never disappoints!

Brown meat in a a large stock pot over medium heat with the onions and garlic. When meat is browned, add red wine and allow to cook down until absorbed into meat mixture.

Add remaining ingredients (except noodles), cover and simmer for an hour and a half, stirring occasionally.

Note: This recipe can also be made in the Crockpot. The only difference is that rather than adding the remaining ingredients into the pot to simmer, you would place the browned meat/onions/garlic and everything else into the Crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Also I usually double or even triple this recipe since our family loves spaghetti! It makes great leftovers and is even better the next day!

If you are trying to eat healthier in a quest to stick to those New Year’s resolutions may I suggest using ground turkey and whole wheat pasta instead. It’ll be just as flavorful and because it’s healthier you can eat a little bit more and not feel guilty!

Serve with Parmesan cheese, fresh green beans, garlic bread and a big garden salad.

Bon Appetito!

Yum! Didn’t have onions or wine, but it was delicious anyway. My husband said he really loved that it was a thicker consistency. Very easy to fix and let simmer on the stove. Looking forward to the leftovers. :)
