A simple spaghetti recipe for the simplest of occasions.
Begin by heating a large pan/stock pot of water on high heat. I like to season my water with a little pinch of salt.
Add olive oil to a separate pan and heat on high until oil is hot. Add onions and sautee until transparent and soft. Add minced beef steak and brown.
Once meat has browned, pour off any excess fat, holding back a small amount for flavour and moistness. Add garlic to the pan and cook with the meat for a few more minutes. Lower the heat and pour in the chopped tomatoes. Add tomato puree and combine.
Let sauce simmer and reduce. Once sauce is to desired thickness, add balsamic vinegar, sugar and salt and pepper to taste.
In the pan/stock pot of boiling water, add the spaghetti and cook until al dente. Meanwhile, let the sauce simmer on a low heat.
Once pasta is cooked, add the fresh basil to the sauce and let it cook while you drain the spaghetti.
Serve the sauce on a bed of pasta and enjoy.
