Description

I risk excommunication by the family for sharing this recipe! This sauce was the base for so many of my very favorite childhood meals.

Ingredients

  • ½ whole Onion, Diced
  • ½ whole Bell Pepper, Diced
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 clove Garlic, Minced
  • 2 cans Diced Tomatoes (14.5oz Cans)
  • 1 can Tomato Sauce (15oz Can)
  • 1 can Tomato Paste (6oz Can)
  • 1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning
  • 1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 pinch Salt And Pepper, to taste

Preparation

Saute onion and bell pepper in a medium pot with a drizzle of olive oil and pinch of salt. Once vegetables have softened, add garlic and ground beef. Cook together until meat is browned, then drain.

While meat mixture is draining, add tomatoes, sauce and paste to pot, stir to combine. Add meat mixture, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt and pepper. Turn the heat down to medium low and allow to simmer for a couple of hours.

I will usually prepare the sauce in the morning and allow it to simmer all day. The sauce can be used for spaghetti, lasagna, baked ziti and many other dishes.

This is exactly what I was looking for! Great sauce and simple to make. I double the batch and freeze portions in ziplocks so I always have some on hand. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

I created an account to put a review on here. Wow…delish. I thought the garlic would be to much, but I was wrong. Go on, add the garlic. You’ll love every bite! Thanks Hollie! I hope your family forgives you for putting Mama’s recipe on here! ;o)
