Description

Grilled Ham Steak and Pineapple with a sweet and savory rum sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1 Tablespoon Miced Garlic
  • ¼ cups Dark Rum
  • ¼ cups Dark Brown Sugar
  • ¼ cups Pineapple Juice
  • 1 teaspoon Ketchup
  • ¼ teaspoons Cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoons Ground Cloves
  • 2  To 3 Ham Steaks
  • 3 cups Pineapple Chunks, On Skewers

Preparation

In a heavy saucepan, combine the butter and the garlic until the garlic starts turning brown, about 3 minutes. Add the rum, sugar, pineapple juice, ketchup, cinnamon and cloves. Simmer for 10 minutes or until the sauce gets nice and thick. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. This can be made the day ahead and stored in the refridgerator.

Start the charcoal grill (or gas) and get the coals hot. Grill the ham steaks 4 minutes on each side; when you flip them, coat both sides with the sauce. When you have about 5 minutes left, add the skewered pineapple chunks to the grill and coat that with the rum sauce.

I’m pretty sure it was my mess up on the sauce, because mine became really thick and I couldn’t spread it on the ham and pineapple, so I just reheated it some to thin it back out. BUT! Besides that, this recipe was amazing. We ate every piece of Ham (Husband even finished what I couldn’t from my plate) and pineapple I had made. Definitely making it again!
