Description

Here is an easy, no-fuss recipe for pulled pork that you can make ahead in your slow cooker or crockpot.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons Hungarian Paprika (not Hot Paprika)
  • 1 Tablespoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Black Pepper
  • ½ teaspoons Chili Flakes
  • ½ teaspoons Dried Thyme
  • ¼ cups Red Wine Vinegar
  • ⅓ cups Honey
  • 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 whole Onion
  • 1 whole (1 1/2 Kg Size) Bone-in Pork Shoulder
  • 1 whole Tomato
  • 1 leaf Bay Leaf

Preparation

1. Mix the paprika, salt, pepper, chili flakes, and thyme in a small bowl.
2. Mix in the vinegar, honey and olive oil to make a paste.
3. Peel and slice the onion and place on the bottom of a slow cooker.
4. Place the pork shoulder on top of the onions.
5. Pour the spice paste over the pork, making sure to coat it completely.
6. Chop the tomato and add to the pot.
7. Tuck the bay leaf into the sauce.
8. Set the slow cooker to low setting and cook for 8 to 8.5 hours, until the pork is tender and falls apart easily.
9. Discard the bay leaf. Take the skin and big chunks of fat off the meat and discard. Take out the bone and discard.
10. Shred the meat with about half the sauce.
11. I made the rest of the sauce into a gravy for poutine.
