Description

A delicious way to make BBQ Tofu in the oven. Even people who think they don’t like tofu will love this recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1 package (12 To 14 Oz. Size) Firm Tofu That Has Been Completely Frozen And Then Thawed Out
  • 3 Tablespoons Peanut Butter
  • ⅓ cups Oil (I Use Olive Oil)
  • 1 Tablespoon Paprika
  • ¼ teaspoons Ground Black Pepper
  • ½ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • BBQ Sauce Of Your Choice, For Basting The Tofu
  • ¼ cups Olive Oil For Baking Sheet (may Use Less Or Cooking Spray!)

Preparation

First you will need to freeze the tofu a couple of days before you make this. Make sure that it gets frozen all the way through. Then I just pull it out of the freezer the morning that I’m going to make it. This helps the tofu to hold together better and not crumble apart. You can buy extra firm, but it’s still best to freeze it.

Preheat your oven to 350ºF. Take a baking sheet and spread about 1/4 cup of oil on it or less. You just want there to be a thin layer of oil. If you want to go healthier, you can use cooking spray instead.

Cut your tofu into 1/3-1/2 inch slices. Make sure you squeeze out as much of the liquid as possible from it.

Set your tofu aside. Gather up the rest of your ingredients (except the BBQ sauce) and put them together in a bowl. Whisk these together until the mixture is smooth.

Now it’s time for the sauce to meet the tofu. You can pour it over the tofu or do what I do and dump the tofu in the sauce you’ve made. Push the strips into the sauce and make sure that you completely cover them with the sauce. When your tofu is ready, lay it out in a single layer on your baking sheet.

Bake the tofu for about 25 minutes. Then pull it out and flip it over. The bottoms should be slightly browned. Now take your BBQ sauce and brush some over the top of the tofu. Put it back in the oven and bake another 25 minutes. Pull it out and flip it over again. Put BBQ sauce on the top again, which will be the side that doesn’t have sauce on it! Put it back in the oven and bake it for about 15 minutes. Pull it out and you are done!

I love tofu and am always ready to try it a new way. This was delicious; I plan on making it next with a more festive homemade BBQ sauce.

Loved it! I used cooking spray on the baking dish instead of oil just to cut down on the calories a little bit and it turned out wonderfully. Even my husband said they were good and he’s always wary of tofu. Thanks for the great recipe!

YUMMY and I like the crunchy bits. Next time I’ll use less sauce as it was a bit runny for me, or maybe pour over rice. Am planning on making for my veggie friends now.
