Description

Delicious on its own or in a banh mi hoagie. Have your own LA food truck at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 package 14 Oz. Size, Extra Firm Tofu, Drained In Colander To Remove Extra Water
  • 4 whole Limes, Zest And Juice
  • ½ cups Soy Sauce
  • ½ cups Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Sesame Oil
  • ⅛ cups Ginger, Peeled And Sliced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Sliced
  • 2 whole Scallions, Root Removed And Sliced
  • ¼ cups Vegetable Oil, For Brushing On The Grill To Prevent Sticking

Preparation

Slice tofu in ½ inch wide slices (you should get 8-9 slices). Layer slices into a shallow glass dish like a brownie pan.

Combine all of the remaining ingredients (everything except the vegetable oil) in a bowl and stir until sugar is dissolved, then pour it over the tofu.

Cover dish with plastic wrap and let it marinate at least two hours, up to 2 days in the refrigerator.

Preheat grill pan or outside grill to medium high heat. Having the grill hot prevents tofu from sticking. Brush grill with a little bit of vegetable oil and place tofu on grill. Grill 5-7 minutes on the first side before flipping it. When you have nice grill marks flip the slices and grill the other side for 5-7 minutes. Time on the grill all depends on the temperature of your grill. The tofu should have a crispy exterior with a soft interior when done.

Serve hot right off the grill if desired but it’s just as good at room temperature.
