I married a Scot and if you know Scots, you know that the UK version of Heinz Beans is a dietary staple. This is the sandwich he requested for dinner one night. Beans, bacon, tomatoes, cheese with some apples to add a bit of sweet to the savory. Yum!
Butter both sides of the bread slices and then toast on either side in a cast iron skillet until they’re golden.
Cook the bacon until crisp. I do it on a cookie sheet lined with foil and sprayed with cooking spray in a preheated 375F oven. It takes around 10 minutes, but watch it closely.
Core and slice the apple as you would for a pie. When the bacon is cooked, throw the apple slices into the drippings and flip them around to coat.
Slice the tomato and heat in melted butter in the skillet.
Assembly:
Put the bread slices on a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Layer Heinz beans, tomatoes, bacon, cheddar cheese, apple and a little more cheese on top of the bread. Put the cookie sheet in the oven at 350 degrees until the cheese melts.
Proceed to moan while eating.

There’s an American version called Heinz Vegetarian Beans which I’ve found in regular grocery stores. They taste different but would still work. I order the UK version by the case from Amazon. The hub likes his beans!

This sounds so yummy and I’d really like to try it. I was wondering though what would the American equivalent be for the Heinz beans?
