Knephla is a German noodle/dumpling. In this recipe, it’s paired with smoked sausage and cream. It’s the ultimate comfort casserole.
Slice sausage and brown in a skillet over medium heat. Chop and add onion when sausage is halfway done; set aside.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place a large pot of water on the stove to boil.
Combine eggs, milk, salt and flour in a large bowl and stir until smooth. The dough will be the consistency of a very thick pancake batter. Drop by teaspoonfuls into salted boiling water. This will take several minutes. When the knephla float and are tender, remove and drain.
Add knephla, sausage and onion to a 9×113″ casserole dish. Pour cream over the top and sprinkle with Nature’s Seasons or salt and pepper. Bake for 30 minutes uncovered.
