Description

A childhood frozen dinner classic made even better from scratch.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE BEEF PATTIES:
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1 whole Small Onion, Peeled And Finely Diced
  • ¼ cups Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Tablespoon Chopped Parsley
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • ¼ teaspoons Pepper
  • ¼ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Unsalted Butter
  • FOR THE SAUCE:
  • 2 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, Divided
  • 8 ounces, weight Sliced Baby Bella Mushrooms
  • 3 Tablespoons All-purpose Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 cups Beef Stock
  • 1 Tablespoon Chopped Parsley
  • Salt And Pepper, to taste

Preparation

For the patties: In a bowl, combine the beef, egg, onion, breadcrumbs, parsley, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Gently mix by hand and form into 4 equal patties. Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the beef patties and cook on medium heat for 5 minutes on each side. Remove from the pan and set aside.

For the sauce: Add half of the butter to the pan along with the mushrooms and cook on medium heat for about 5-7 minutes or until slightly browned. Move the mushrooms to the side of the pan and add the flour into the center. Stir for a minute. Slowly whisk in the Worcestershire sauce and beef stock, making sure to scrape up all the browned bits on the bottom of the pan. Season with salt and pepper and return the beef patties to the pan. Continue to cook on medium low heat for an additional 10 minutes for the sauce to thicken and the beef patties to cook through. Finish by stirring in the final half of the butter and the parsley. Serve over noodles or mashed potatoes.

I have been experimenting with different dishes. I have a lot of time on my hands, and cant wait to try this on my husband. I will let you know if he thinks it is a “keeper”

This was really good. Best of all, all the ingredients were already in my pantry. Husband loved as did 2 of our children.

Anita, this looks so good! And yes, as a child I had the classic frozen dinner. Added to my recipe box, can’t wait to try this.

*I agree with luvmychaos…this would make excellent hamburgers, I thought that too while devouring it!

I made this tonight and served it over garlic mashed potatoes with a side of mixed vegetables. Super simple and delicious. My husband and I both loved it, and I’ll definitely be making it again!
