Homemade pesto takes these turkey burgers from boring and dry to flavor packed.
First, you’ll want to toast your nuts (nobody like raw nuts). Put a small skillet over medium-high heat and toss in the nuts. You’ll know they are done when you will start to smell them. Keep an eye on these guys though because they are done pretty quickly and can burn easily.
Combine all of the ingredients walnuts through pepper into a food processor and puree until smooth and paste-like.
Reserve 1/4 cup of the pesto and set it aside. You will need this later as a topping for your burgers.
Mix the remaining pesto in with 1 pound of ground turkey. Form the meat into four evenly sized patties. If you’re measuring, each patty should weigh about 5 ounces.
Grill the patties over medium heat until no longer pink inside (about 5 minutes per side). Serve on whole wheat hamburger buns and use reserved pesto as a spread.
