Confused about how much salt or water you need to cook a perfect batch of pasta? Follow these easy directions.
To cook one pound of dried pasta:
In a 6 quart stockpot, bring 1 gallon of cold water to a boil.
Add 4 1/2 teaspoons Kosher salt (1 ounce or 30 grams). Add pasta; stir. Allow water to return to a boil; stirring pasta occasionally. Start tasting the pasta a couple of minutes before the time given on the package directions. Properly cooked should give slightly when you bite into it. Once done, drain and serve with your favorite pasta dish.

I don’t use enough water. No doubt that is why it is never the correct consistency.
