Description

While visiting a friend on vacation, she humbly offered this meal since it was toddler friendly for her daughter. I LOVED it and brought it home to my hubs who also enjoyed it. It has become a staple easy meal for us.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (8 Oz. Size) Biscuit Dough
  • 4 whole Hot Dogs
  • 1 can Hot Dog Chili Sauce, 10 Ounce Can
  • ½ cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 400°F.

2. Roll out each piece of biscuit dough so that it’s about 5″ round.

3. Grease 8 holes of a muffin tin.

4. Put biscuit dough inside eight individual cups, leaving some excess dough hanging over the edge of the cup.

5. Slice each hot dog in half, then into slices, place in cups.

6. Fill each cup with hot dog chili sauce until hot dogs are covered (usually a good dollup will do!).

7. Top with cheddar cheese, a good handful or more to taste!

8. Pinch excess dough around the top of the ugly so that it is closed around the top, if there isn’t enough to cover it all it is OK!

9. Repeat for remaining uglies.

10. Cook for 15-20 minutes or until uglies are golden brown.

11. Let cool for 2 minutes and enjoy!

I’m always trying to think of something new my picky kids will eat, what a perfect, fun meal! Can’t wait to try them, thanks!

I do use the Grands after I saw my friend struggling to pinch hers together and work the dough. I’m lazy and a bad roller so if you don’t feel like fiddling much, use the Grands. They also usually have some coupons online!

I tried this but ended up having to use 2 bicuits so it would have enought room to pinch together.

Are you sure you didn’t use grands? Also no room for cheddar cheese and only a TINY bit of chili.

good idea, I’ll keep working on it. :)

These look so fun. I don’t have any toddlers to feed, but I think I would love them.

I haven’t tried these – but they look so fun! I suppose if your kids (or spouse) aren’t into the chili, you could just do cheese and let them dip in ketchup and mustard. I also love the name – glad you included a photo!

Most of my kids liked this so that is a plus. It would make a good lunch dish for kiddos.

We don’t have any kids but my sweetheart and I LOVED these. We made them together for a quick dinner after work. And…it’s so fun to refer to dinner as “uglies.”

Very good, thank you. I made these for the kids one night that my husband was working late. The funny thing was when he had grabbed one for work the next day, he bit into it cold assuming it was a sweet treat. Big surprise! Kids loved them. I’m often accused of not making kid friendly foods.

We made these with butter biscuits and they turned out divine. I am going to try making other “uglies”. Thank you!
