Slow cooked pork brings back great memories of a luau in Maui.
Begin by either forking your pork shoulder, making marks throughout the entire pork shoulder, or use a knife and score the shoulder. Rub the entire pork with the kosher salt and liquid smoke.
Place in your slow cooker, add the water, and cook either on low for eight hours, or on a higher setting for nearly four to five hours. Use two forks and begin to flake away the pork, as it should be very tender and simply fall apart, or be really easy to shred.
Eat alone, place in a burrito, taco, or serve with your favorite sides.
Simple, easy, and delicious, this is sure to please. Enjoy.

Me and my husband just went on our honeymoon in Hawaii and went to a Luau in Lahaina. I can’t wait to make some of the recipes we had there! Thanks for posting this!!

If you can get Hawaiian rock salt, by all means use that. And don’t use water, no need! I put a few holes into the pork before cooking and insert peeled cloves of garlic, it adds extra flavor to the cooked kalua pork. I know it isn’t traditional..shhhhh.

I love this recipe. I originally covered the meat 1/2 with water but see that it is only 1/2 cup which makes it better (not so soupy). I made this for a “Tiki” birthday party(8 years old) for my niece–she and her friends loved it

Kalua pork is amazing! It tastes so good this way! I make it the same except I never add water. It always turns out so yummy! Great recipe!!
