Description

Okay, this recipe may only be famous with the Allen family, but it’s delightful nonetheless!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Hamburger Or Italian Sausage
  • 1 package Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 cup Warm Water (105-115 Degrees)
  • 2-¼ teaspoons Salt, Divided
  • 2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 2-½ cups All-purpose Or Whole Wheat Flour
  • 8 ounces, fluid Tomato Sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons Dried Oregano Leaves
  • ⅛ teaspoons Powder Garlic
  • ⅛ teaspoons Pepper
  • ⅛ teaspoons Chili Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Sweet Basil
  • 1 whole Onion (medium)
  • ½ whole (bell) Green Pepper, Chopped
  • 1 can Mild Chiles
  • 2 cups Mozzarella Cheese, Shredded

Preparation

Cook and stir sausage (or hamburger) until light brown; drain.

* To make dough:

Dissolved yeast in warm water. Stir in 1 teaspoon salt, vegetable oil and flour; beat vigorously 20 strokes. Let rest about 5 minutes.

Mix tomato sauce, oregano, 1 1/4 teaspoon salt, garlic, pepper, chili powder, and sweet basil; heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer.

Divide dough into halves or thirds. Roll into a circle with a rolling pin. Place equal portions or meat, onion, green pepper, chile pepper and mozzarella in the center of the dough in a strip. Spoon 2-3 Tablespoons of sauce on top of the meat mixture. Fold dough over and press shut.

Place on a lightly-greased cookie sheet and cook in oven at 425 degrees until dough is light-brown, about 20-25 minutes.

These sound good. I will have to go the easy route though and buy pizza dough from the refrigerated case at the super market, yeast and I are not friends! Thanks for the recipe.
