Description

This is great to do for a potluck, Super Bowl party, or a family meal. In these tough times, pork butt is economical and makes a good meal.

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds Pork Butt
  • ½ teaspoons Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • ½ teaspoons Chili Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 bottle (18-21 Oz. Bottle) Any Brand BBQ Sauce, Honey Or Hickory
  • ½ bottles Water (Use The Barbecue Sauce Bottle To Measure)
  • ¼ cups Apple Cider Vinegar

Preparation

You will need at least a 5-quart slow cooker for this. You may need to cut the roast in half if it is awkward in size and that is okay, but don’t try to cut it in multiple pieces.

Mix all dry spices and rub all over the pork butt to season. Put in the crock pot and add the bottle of bbq sauce, then fill the bottle halfway with water and add that along with the apple cider vinegar.

Cover and cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours. Remove and cool for about an hour. While cooling, put the crock pot with the juices in the refrigerator to cool, then remove and skim off the fat from the sauce. Pull apart the pork butt with 2 forks to shred. Add to the sauce, warm up and serve on hard rolls or wedges. You can serve this with coleslaw either on the sandwiches or on the side. This is delicious and many of my friends have asked for the recipe.

Fantastic!!! Have made this recipe several times and it’s always a hit! I make as big a batch at my crock will hold and then freeze it in smaller meal-sized portions for my family. Freezes beautifully. Made this for my picky FIL and he couldn’t quit raving about it. Wonderful!

I love, love, LOVE this recipe. I have made it at least a dozen times since I first discovered it. It’s absolutely fantastic. The taste is mild (in a good way) because it’s well seasoned and still lets the pork flavor come through. Which makes it perfect in our house because my husband can top his sandwich with spicy BBQ sauce and I can use the sweeter sauce I enjoy, and our little girl likes them just the way they are. I always make a huge batch and freeze the leftovers for quick meals on the run. Everyone who has enjoyed this at our house has asked for the recipe. The best part is that it tastes like you fussed for days to get it just right. Kudos on a great go to meal!
