This was one of my mother-in-law’s favorites back in the early 1960s. It makes a large casserole and was always a hit at picnics and potlucks.
In a very large frying pan, brown the ground beef with the sliced celery. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Pour into a large casserole dish and bake at 350ºF for 1 hour.

Thank you so very much for posting this. My mother used to make this for her seven children and any of our friends who happened to drop in the first wednesday of every month before going to church. I have been searching for this for many years. Mom called them rebel beans.

Donna, it makes a really big pot of beans, I just guessed at 12 servings! This was a favorite of my mother-in-law’s back in the early 1960s. It makes a large casserole and was always a hit at picnics and potlucks. The kids always asked for seconds of “that sweet chili”!

These sound wonderful. I will give this a try for my next potluck!
