A classic Midwestern favorite!
Heat the oil in a pan or skillet. When the oil is hot, add the chopped sweet onions with salt and pepper. Cook for a few minutes until the onions are slightly translucent.
Add the brats to the pan and sear until golden brown for a nice outer crust. Turn the heat down to low and simmer until the onions have turned caramel brown and the sausages have cooked through.
Ever so slightly, toast the rolls, careful not to over-toast in that they will be too crisp and difficult to eat. Place the brats into the rolls and dress with raw onions, sauerkraut, sweet pickle relish, mustard and ketchup, or your own personal favorites. Serve immediately with some tasty beverages. Enjoy!
