Description

This is an imitation Gyro, made with sirloin instead of the traditional lamb. They are simple, quick, and incredibly tasty.

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Plain Yogurt
  • ¼ cups Chopped Cucumber
  • 1 Tablespoon Chopped Onion
  • ½ teaspoons Chopped Fresh Mint
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 pound Sirloin, Cut Into Thin One-inch Strips
  • 2 teaspoons Greek Seasoning
  • 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil
  • 6 whole Soft Pita Breads, Warmed
  • 1 cup Cherry Tomatoes, Quartered
  • 1 whole Cucumber, Julienned
  • 6 whole Lettuce Leaves (optional)

Preparation

For the sauce, combine yogurt, chopped cucumber, onion, mint, and salt in a medium bowl. Set aside.

Toss sirloin with the Greek seasoning. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add sirloin and cook, stirring, about 3 minutes or until cooked through.

Divide sirloin strips among the warmed pitas. Top with tomato, cucumber, and lettuce (if using.) Drizzle the sauce over the top. Serve immediately.

I am so glad I found this recipe! My husband has been *hinting* that I try my hand at making some. I can guarantee these will be on the menu this week!

Tried this recipe yesterday for lunch; very good – garnering “5 stars” from my husband. I’d recommend serving the filled pita wrapped in tinfoil, for ease of consumption.

This was sooooo good! Made it for dinner tonight as hubby loves gyros. I have only ever had the lamb ones and hated them but these were very good! Definitely will make again! Thanks for the great recipe!

Delicious!!!!! I just used flour tortillas since I didn’t have pita, I also didn’t have any mint… but they were still amazing!!

These were okay….I should have used greek yogurt instead of the typical dannon-it would have been thicker and not as runny. I guess I am picky and was expecting more flavor, but you can’t replicate at home the shaved lamb in normal gyros. I would suggest blending the sauce in a food processor to get it creamier and maybe adding dill and some garlic.

A quick dish. The yogurt dressing was very refreshing. I loved the addition of mint. The next time I would make my own Greek seasoning as I found the prepackaged seasoning to be a little too much salt and not enough herb.
