The title may not sound so inviting — but I promise the flavor is fantastic. Sweet and savory together – Mmmmm.
**I use mild sweet onions — and slice them thinly. I also slice the apple thinly. You can either use breakfast sausage or something like Johnsonville Brand Brats. Just get one package — that’s more than enough.
1. In a large pan melt butter and add onions, and apple and sauté on medium heat about 10 minutes until the onions are translucent.
2. Add sausage, turning frequently while cooking about 20-25 minutes until sausage is done. This is a pork we are talking about — so make sure you cook them well — Trichinosis is no fun.
Once the sausage, onion and apple mixture is done, open up your can of apple pie filling (yes, yes, apple pie filling for real) and pour over the sausage, onion and apples.
Stir until heated through and then serve.
This is delightful with biscuits.
