Description

One of the best things I ever have put in my mouth! These are to die for and everyone should make them asap.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE APPLE FRITTER CAKES:
  • 2 whole Large Apples, Any Variety
  • ½ cups Whole Milk
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1-½ cup All-purpose Flour
  • ¼ cups Granulated Sugar
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Cinnamon
  • 4 Tablespoons Butter, For Frying
  • _____
  • FOR THE WARM CARAMEL SAUCE:
  • ½ cups Butter
  • 1 cup Packed Brown Sugar
  • ¼ cups Heavy Cream Or Whole Milk
  • 1 dash Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Vanilla Extract

Preparation

Begin by peeling, coring and grating apples into a large bowl. You should yield approximately 2 cups. (Do not drain the liquid that the apples give off!) Into the apples, stir in milk, eggs and vanilla. Slowly stir in all dry ingredients until combined. Heat a large skillet over medium to medium-high heat. Grease liberally with butter. Drop batter by 1/4 cupfuls onto the hot surface. Once edges have browned, flip to cook the other side (just like making pancakes). Remove hot cakes to a plate and cover with foil. Re-grease the pan with more butter and repeat until all the fritter cakes are cooked.

To make the warm caramel sauce, melt butter and sugar together over medium heat while stirring occasionally. Let mixture simmer lightly until it starts to bubble and look foamy. Cook this for 3-5 minutes. Stir in milk, salt and vanilla. Turn burner off, but leave caramel sauce on the hot stove until ready to serve. Pour into a serving dish and serve with apple fritter cakes.

You’re killing me, Lauren! If only I could rationalize caramel for breakfast to my health-nutty husband! (Maybe if he goes out of town again…)

This garnered 5 Stars from the family! It was fun having our daughter and our foreign exchange student from Korea help prep everything. We used a combo of Macintosh and Gala and left it a little chunkier than directed to the cheers of the peanut gallery! I will also use this caramel sauce for other dishes as it was easy and fabulous! Thank you for sharing!

LOVED these!! I used Gala apples, and then served sliced ham as a side. So very good, perfect for fall!

Tasty apple fritters and easy. A little heavy for my wife, so they didn’t make the keeper list for us, but I did pass it on to some friends. Probably best with a cooking apple as it was a little custardy/soft for us with an eating apple.

I made these for a house full of little girls. The first bite, my daughters friend said “these taste just like donuts”. They were easy and delicious.
