Description

Braised tofu in soy sauce, garlic and honey. A delicious and easy dish that can be served as a side for 4 or as an entree for 2 – 3 people with rice.

Ingredients

  • 2 packages (14 Oz Package) Medium Firm Tofu
  • ¾ cups Soy Sauce, Low Sodium
  • ¼ cups Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Minced Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame Oil
  • 1 whole Chili Pepper, Sliced
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey
  • 2 Tablespoons Oil
  • Optional Garnish: Chopped Chives Or Green Onions

Preparation

Drain tofu and then set in a strainer to remove excess liquid. While tofu is straining, work on the sauce.

In a bowl whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, sesame oil, chili pepper and honey.

Coat a large frying pan with oil and turn heat to medium high.

Pat tofu dry with a paper towel and cut each block of tofu into 12 pieces. Carefully place cut tofu in a single layer into the hot pan, cook for about 5-6 minutes or until slightly brown. Carefully flip tofu and cook the other sides until slightly brown, about another 6-10 minutes. Add marinade and carefully coat the tofu with the marinade. Turn heat down to medium and let cook for another 5-10 minutes to allow the sauce to absorb into the tofu.

Serve tofu and sauce with rice. You can garnish the dish with chives or green onions.

Made this last night and my 2 year old adored it! I omitted the chili pepper so it wouldn’t be too hot for her but the taste was still delicious. My husband and I both enjoyed it as well.

Wow it’s come out really good. One thing I changed- I used half of soy sauce and sauce wasn’t too salty. Thanks for great recipe

My 3 year old daughter ate a bunch of this, but I wasn’t all that excited about it as it was a tad too salty. I think next time I make this (and I will, because who doesn’t want their kids to enjoy eating something healthy?) I will use less soy and more brown sugar, I will probably also add some vegetable stock or water for the liquid lost in doing so.

Thanks for the recipe!

This was really good and really quick, thank you! The sauce was too salty for my taste but I am hoping I can fix that :)
