Description

This spicy sausage and arugula pizza is colorful and easy to make. A great twist on classic tomato and sausage pizza!

Ingredients

  • ½ pounds Uncooked Hot Italian Sausage
  • ¼ cups Chopped Yellow Onion
  • 1 clove Garlic, Diced
  • ¼ teaspoons Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1-½ cup Crushed Tomatoes (opt For Canned If You Like, Or Give A Few Fresh Tomatoes A Quick Whirl In The Food Processor)
  • 1 pinch Salt And Pepper, to taste
  • 1 pound Your Favorite Pizza Dough
  • 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 cup Fresh Arugula

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 400 F.

2. Heat a medium saucepan over high heat. Add sausage and cook, breaking it up into chunks with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Cook sausage, stirring occasionally, until it is cooked through, about 8 minutes.

3. Remove cooked sausage to a bowl and return saucepan to the stove over medium heat.

4. Add onion and garlic to saucepan and sauté until onion is translucent, about 3 minutes.

5. Add red pepper flakes, crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper to saucepan and stir to combine. Bring sauce to a simmer, then remove from heat and set aside.

6. Press pizza dough into a pizza pan. Top dough with tomato sauce, followed by the mozzarella, and finally the cooked Italian sausage.

7. Bake pizza at 400 F for 15-20 minutes until cheese is melted and crust is lightly browned. Remove from oven.

8. Top baked pizza with fresh arugula. I like to set it in a pile at the center of the pizza, but you could also give it a rough chop and scatter it over the top if you aren’t a big fan of huge arugula leaves.

9. Slice and serve immediately.
