This is always on the table for Thanksgiving and Christmas at our house. Mom has been making this for over 40 years and it is really good.
In a large bowl, dissolve gelatin in boiling water, then add cold water and soda. Refrigerate until syrupy and partially set. Fold in remaining ingredients until well mixed. Chill until set.
Note: you can use an 8-serving-sized box of sugar-free gelatin if you want.

We loved this salad. It was easy, quick, and delicious. It was a nice addition to the Christmas dinner.
