I have been making this simple yet delicious meatloaf for over 25 years and rarely change anything in the recipe. I’m not a fan of meatloaf but my family is and this is one recipe that I admit I like! Can easily be doubled for a larger family, just increase your cooking time. Adapted from a 1970s Better Homes & Garden cookbook.
Preheat oven to 375ºF.
For the meatloaf, combine eggs and milk; stir in bread crumbs, rolled oats, onion, parsley, Italian seasoning, basil, sage, salt and pepper. Add ground beef and mix well. Pat mixture into a loaf pan and bake for 1 1/4 hours. Remove from oven, spoon out excess fat.
For the sauce, combine ketchup, brown sugar and dry mustard; spread approximately 1/3 cup of sauce evenly over meatloaf. (Reserve some of the sauce to serve with meatloaf after baking.) Return to oven for 10-15 minutes or until sauce begins to darken.
Let stand at least 10 minutes before slicing so that it has time to set and not crumble.
